Dallas, Texas — Late yesterday evening, Rickey Wright was shot in the head by the owner of a vehicle he allegedly was attempting to steal.

The shooter had stopped at a convenience store and went inside, leaving her two toddlers, ages 2 and 4, unattended in her SUV. While inside, she claims she noticed a man trying to drive away with her vehicle, with the children still inside.

She jumped in the back seat and allegedly told Wright to stop. When he didn’t pull over, the woman opened her glove box, where she kept a loaded gun. She proceeded to shoot the perpetrator once in the head, after which, he crashed the car.

According to CBS 11 News, she said, “I should have just have emptied the whole clip but I didn’t. I didn’t. I just wanted to give him a warning shot that was it. I’m not a killer or anything like that, but I do believe in defending what’s mine.”

Wright was taken to the hospital, where he currently is listed in serious but stable condition. He does have previous arrest records.

The shooter was not charged.
